East Village Refresh
East Village is one of the first Build to Rent developments in the UK and with over 3000 units forms a resident neighbourhood in Stratford, London. Built as a former Athlete’s Village for the 2012 London Olympics the buildings on site already have a history of transformation which we are excited to build upon by working in collaboration with Get Living to design & execute the first UK BTR refresh of this scale.
TEN’s role in the project included in-depth analysis of existing apartments, finishes and product information prior to commencing design work. Once we had a thorough understanding of site conditions we devised 100+ typical layout proposals for new furniture packs, respecting existing room & electrical layouts to minimise implementation time. These were elaborated with new proposals for finishes such as flooring, kitchen & window dressing and then further complemented by a selection of custom-made furniture.
Working across 1400 apartments our role was to come up with 5 unique designs that work across a number of typical layouts to upgrade & enhance elements of the interior that have aged with use over time.
Each design type has distinctive features, which draw upon the local neighbourhood characteristics expressed through materiality & form to create a stronger design differentiation across all the apartments in the village.
